Well, dez, every pedal for a guitar adds some sort of different effect to it. For instance there is a "delay pedal"(I believe bart has one
on the far right..the grey one with blue knobs), the delay pedal can make one note sound like many. So if you hit one note once - you can make it
repeat, therefore, sound like like you are hitting that note multiple times. An example of this is in the song "Youth of a nation" by
P.O.D. The flanger pedal is a weird one (I think bart's green one is a flanger). I know for a fact that the Rage against the machine song
"killing in the name" uses this for the intro. I also think Chris may use it at the beggining of "Egzit", but i really
don't know. It almost makes it sound like a jet keeps going by. The wah-pedal is as straight forward as it's name...it makes the guitar
"wah" when you press up and down on the pedal. The best use of this effect is in the song "Love thing" by Joe Satriani, imo
(but I know you don't like downloading songs). There is a really cool pedal I have never gotten a chance to use before made famous by Tom
Morello of Rage called the Whammy Pedal. Chris has one in his set-up - it is a bigger, red, rectangular-shaped one. This can make a particular note
sound different octaves higher or lower than actually played. Chris uses it breifly in the song "Clear me", at the last few notes of the
solo and also in the song "Day I understood". There are thousands of other types of pedals..Bart has a tuner on the top right..you pluck
an open string and a gauge will tell you what not you are playing and if you are sharp or flat. It also looks like he may have a volume pedal (black
one on the right)...that just makes the volume get softer or louder. That would come in handy for the intro to the song "Pardon me" by
Incubus..he manulaly fades the guitar in with the guitar knob..but it would be easier with one of those.
Understand? Either, it was fun to type. I love talking about gutiars. Even if I have no clue what I am talking about. I hope I do.
Bart, the Chrome boy has always been my fav. guitar, but my second fav is a PRS that does look similar to my avatar pic. It's a silver PRS
swamp-ash model. Not the newer swamp-ash, but the older one..before every musician played PRS's. Actually, the first time I saw that PRS was
when I saw Daniel Johns of silverchair using it. That was during there second album...so quite a number of years ago. Rick Jackett of Finger Eleven
also used to use that exact guitar back in the TIP days. Maybe I can find a picture of it.

oh your avatar was a PRS then. that'd explain me thinking it looks like one.
you almost had my gear bang on there reivax. but my green pedal is a phaser pedal. dez, phaser is short for "phase shifter" - it makes a
whooshing effect. it's used at the beginning of Nowhere Fast by incubus for instance. chris does indeed use a flanger pedal at the beginning of
egzit, though i don't have one. yet.
so from left to right, my set up is
amp's pedal - changes between distortion and clean, and switches the effects loop on and off
chorus pedal - nirvana and inme use this a lot
distortion pedal - i use this one for light distortion
phaser pedal
delay pedal
tap-tempo for the delay pedal so i can set the repeat rate with no hands
volume pedal (yeah, makes those volume swells so easy!)
wah pedal
and the tuner above.
and shifty - i've played marshalls before and i have to say i don't like the distortion very much. but i haven't played any really
big marshalls, so maybe that's different, i don't know. i like my bandit 112

My brother got a Digitech RP100 for Christmas. It's pretty cool. 80 effects and a built in tuner. I guess it's better than buying a
billion pedals. But having alot of pedals is alot cooler.

Having a lot of pedals in general sounds better, but is a lot more expensive. All the less expensive multi effects pedals I have heard are terrible
when compared with the same effects produced by the actual amp. (In particular for distortion)
