Hey, I don't think anyone has touched this thread for a while. I have never been here myself. Flea is the shit, no doubt about it. If you want
to talk about shit just go into the off-topic threads and talk about whatever you want, people are cool there.

Wow... I have never seen this thread before... Welcome to the boards, Blindchild. Slap bass is tough to get a hang of. I use to think it was just my
bass, but then my friend, and ex-bassplayer for Westpoint started playing some mad slap bass on it and put me to shame. It hurts when you realise you
suck.

slap bass is as it says.... you pretty much play bass percussively.... you use the bone on your thumb to hit the string to produce a sound, rather
than strumming, picking, plucking, whatever you normally do. It has an awsome sound, and is a lot of fun

Sean doesn't really use slap bass. Listen to 'higher ground' by the Chili peppers and you'll get a sense of it. I think the
guy from Korn does it quite a bit, but his stuff always kinda sounds the same to me.
I don't think that's the best example actually. If you want to hear an amazing bass solo with alot of slapp near the end, try and find Stu
Hamm's Bass solo on Kazaa...or whatever program you may use. It's probably the coolest bass solo out there, imo. It's probably
because I saw it live that I think that...but it really is amazing.

Oh my god. I saw a video of him playing!! He is unbelievable. I never thought a bass could be played like that.
And yeah, I have never really heard much slap in finger, but definitely in the Chilli Peppers though.

Ya, it was quite remarkable to see. I have the dvd with that on it. The tapping part is bloody awesome, too. You gotta have some pretty strong fingers
to be able to do that. I can't remember what song he taps, but it is an old classical song..probably by bach. Actually I think it's
midnight sonata.

Yeah, he taps out Moonlight Sonata (woo, 45 seconds down, only like 2 minutes to go :/ ). he also does a version of Linus and Lucy (Peanuts theme)
with tapping, but it's a different style of tapping.
For slap, early Chili peppers (most notably, Higher Ground, Coffee Shop, and Johnny Kick a Hole in the Sky) and some of Primus's stuff, though
Les Claypool mixes the slapping with chords so it sounds strange.
