all new newbies reading this: there's a newer, cleaner, less scary welcome thread now, somewhere near the top of the list. doesn't have
the legendary status of this - The First Thread - but it's a lot less to get through. i remember when i joined a board i thought i might as well
read through the welcome thread to see who everyone was, not realising it was over 100 pages long. i got to about 30, which took ages, and then found
out and promptly skipped to the end.
