I suggest you go ahead and do both. Heck if someone is willing to pay for it , why not. As long as you keep it clean it won't get infected.
I've had one for about 5 years and I haven't had any problems with it. Plus you can always take it out and let it grow over....whereas
with a tat if you don't want it anymore it's not so easily removed. Although be aware that tats are addicting. People used to tell me
that before I got mine and now I know what they mean. I'm thinking about getting another one now.
