Magazine/E-zine
Hey guys, as I talked about in a post over on the main forums (the interview post), I'm currently in the process of setting up a music
magazine/E-zine with some m8s i know and am really just posting here to see if anyone would be interested. I've already had a reply from the
other post, but wanted to create a thread devoted to it. Go to that one first to take a look to see if you thnk i can write well first (that may
encourage you - i hope!) and just read a few posts down to see what i said about it.
This was the reply i wrote to Olly (the top guy who replied to my first post within minutes of posting - ok maybe a few hours...) "I'm
planning to include interviews, previews of bands, album/ep reviews, gig reviews, general news etc. (ok you wouldn't have been able to deduce
all of that from what you have read of my writing) getting new bands either signed or unsigned will be a major focus (however i'd still like to
include some bigger bands - as it stands i've predicted quite a few rock/alternate rock/emo bands which have 'made it' now), as will
be writing good articles I'd like to really get this looking good without all the swearing and slang which i feel contributes to making a lot of
music magazines just so trivial. I think there will be a focus on Alternate music/rock, however I'm open to putting any band or style in.
I've been talking to a few friends and have managed to get them 'on board' as it were. Currently taking AS levels, i won't
really have any time to devote to this project right now (in a month or so i will have a lot of free time though), but after these im gonna start
working on getting an entire layout sorted.
Depending on how well this goes, I think it will start out as an online mag, however i hope that we will be able to perhaps get a bit of funding into
this (if we feel the mag is of a high enough standard) and HOPE to look around for a potential 'cheap' publisher, whether it be through a
contact or someone we find online or off..."
Sorry this is a bit rushed, but if you are interested then please drop me a line at my e-mail address (9pape@uppingham.co.uk) - feel free to post any
questions or suggestions here, or just e-mail me them. Cheers all, I will hopefully write much more about this soon, and will update you as soon as
progress is being made.

Well that's how it's going to start out, so perhaps you could be a contributer for the online mag and see what happens...? There will, I
hope, always be an online aspect to the magazine: creating a sort of base for very up to date news, tour dates, photos, etc.

me, two m8s from home (hoping to get more, as i've only really asked those so far, working on this guy i know who is very good at edditing/comp
work - hopefully he should be willing, but he's just got a lot on at the mo. and isn't really thinking ahead too far), and Olly Gibson has
shown great interest. Once I've got the main layout sorted, I think it will be much easier to convince people of the potential of this
project...

I'd love to help out mate, but i'm currently swamped with school and exams.
If there are any smaller things you need done I would be happy to help, but I can't fully commit to the project until July (ish).

oh awesome m8, sorry if i didn't make it clear earlier, but i am also taking exams at the moment, so will not be able to really get this thing
going until about the same time as you. Just want to get the ideas going/establish who's interested at the mo. etc. for now. If u could send me
a quick e-mail at my address, just say hi or something, then i will be able to establish an e-mail list thing so as to be able to talk 2 everyone at
the same time easily...
cheers

ok guys, I've finally finished my exams and have started (very early stages) to put together the layout for this thing and get it off the
ground! I'm not sure if I can upload the designs anywhere - any ideas? However, they need some tuning to say the least, before they're
ready to go up...
p.s. it's also worth pointing out that for now i have named the mag "NU-MUSIC" - good title?

yeah i've been playing around with it. tried out having a black boarder. it's pleasing to the eye that way, but is perhaps a bit of a
waste of space. i also tried making everything bigger, so that it reaches the edges of the page better, but the only trouble with that is that it is
quite hard to keep it all in proportion. gonna mess around with it some more now and see if i can get the middle/bottom sections looking good. also i
wrote some articles a while back, which are still up to date, so will wham them in and start putting together the framework of a first issue. The only
real trouble i have is that im working with Publisher, which is not the best software for this kinda thing, but with time the results can still please
the eye.
is there anyone out there, who is particularily skilled with graphics creation/edditing who would be willing to help us out?
