The War on Terrorism Debate Thing
Well, this is my pathetic attempt at a 'smart' thread. My threads have been threatened by the recent addition of a member known simply as
''Dobs.'' Damn him.
Well as well all know(or hopefully all know) the war on terrorism is on-going as we speak.... Unfortunately.
Hopefully we can get some discussions going on about ppl's opinion on the on-going war. Let's make this an intelligent thread.
Discuss the following issues:
-what is a terrorist
-who should get involved w/ stopping them (country/nation affected,world-wide effort, etc)
-how effective are terrorists (in the US, they say that they are still strong, yet their economy is completely ruined)
Commitments to help (?)
-if the US stays in Afganistan, how come Israel shouldn't
-how much should an outside country get involved
-(this kinda seemes off topic, but)the idea of a global flag to unite the globe
Also- comments on the Iraq war.
-where are these weapons?
-what is the gov't really after?
And.. What can everyone else do to prevent other wars?
Go, post now children.
one last show.

terror
The definition of a terrorist is pretty vague, especially these days as governments label terrorists to turn the public against said group. I guess
I'd say a terrorist is someone with extreme beliefs who feels that violence and the killing of innocent people is a just way to fight for a
cause. Their actions are motivated by extreme hatred.
I'd say it's a global effort that is needed to combat terrorism. Every country should pitch in according to their wealth and how they are
affected by terrorism.
Terrorists are not effective at all, although they perceive themselves to be effective. My point here is backed up by countless proof. The Lockerbie
bombing, the bali nightclub bombing, the bombing of that US ship in Yemen. All of them have only served to really make things safer for people and
the demands that the terrorists have made have not been met. The single most effective terrorist strike has been September 11th simply because of its
scale in disrupting the global economy and industry.
The war on terrorism will never be won because as long as countries go around invading other countries or forcing their cultures on people who
don't want it, there will be those who are willing to die for what they believe in. That is why I believe the war on terror will never be won.
Instead countries must strike at the root of the problem. Unfair trade practices, military presences in foreign lands must end. Relations between
Israel/Palestine must be calmed and an agreement must be reached. These are only a few proposed solutions of course.
And for the Iraq war? Read this site. It's the new imperialism.

I would tend to pick a more formal punishment. Death by firing squad is a good punishment for war crimes.

for my thoughts on this topic, refer to lyrics thread.
Amid the chaos of that day, when all I could hear was the thunder of gunshots, and all I could smell was the violence in the air, I look back and am
amazed that my thoughts were so clear and true, that three words went through my mind endlessly, repeating themselves like a broken record:
you're so cool, you're so cool, you're so cool. And sometimes Clarence asks me what I would have done if he had died, if that bullet
had been two inches more to the left. To this, I always smile, as if I'm not going to satisfy him with a response. But I always do. I tell him
of how I would want to die, but that the anguish and the want of death would fade like the stars at dawn, and that things would be much as they are
now. Perhaps. Except maybe I wouldn't have named our son Elvis.

How do you communicate those emotions that are so intense that no physical expression or series of words can even scratch the surface?

Jorge. If it helps at all, when I tried to post pictures before and they never worked, it was because I was using Netscape. As soon as I switched back
to Internet Explorer, they worked again.
I honestly have nothing to say on this topic, because I think everyone basically feels the same way about this twit. And that kind of makes it hard to
"debate".
