Hmmm, something which may help this board a little.

I've noticed a lot that people are misreading posts and taking offense to things which are meant to taken with a grain of salt (not serious, joking, sarcasm, whatever it is). So to this end I bestow upon you (drum roll please)...

The </joke> and </sarcasm> tags. Now text is a difficult thing to put emotion to, unless you exaggerate the feeling you're trying to convey, it's difficult for others to understand it on the same level as the person who wrote it. Take, for example, this scenario:

Character 1: Ooooh, I just reached 100 posts.

Character 2: Pity none of them were meaningful, huh?

That sounds harsh, doesn't it? Well, change it to this and let's have a look.

Character 1: Ooooh, I just reached 100 posts.

Character 2: Pity none of them were meaningful, huh? </joke>

Bears a whole new meaning now. Here's an example for the other tag.

Character 1: OMOGMOGMGOGMGGO i r kewl!1!!!!111!

Character 2: Uh huh, suuure you are.

Add </sarcasm> on the end of that and suddenly what once was hurtful is now a playful little game. Well I do hope I have shed some light on what appears to be a rather distressing problem that is slowly overtaking our peaceful community here. Here's hoping we see more </joke> and </sarcasm> and less "That's really mean! ".

This concept was brought to you by Sin Ogaris, trying to make the boards a better place since 2004 (well, earlier as well, just not as "in your face" ).

So everyone better do what I say or there'll be a few DEAD Canadians and Brits! </joke> Ahhh, fun for the whole family.

Yes. Well, how about whenever I say something, you all assuuuume it's sarcasm unless I specifically say otherwise.

I could have an "I was being serious" tag.

Thats a great idea dude!! It is very hard to understand at times if someone is serious or not. I think adding adding a tag is 1 step to improving the situation!!

Heh, I use a serious tag occasionally if I say something nice which someone could take as a joke. Anyway, I'm glad you like the idea. I just don't like when people get upset over a miscommunication, it's not good so hopefully this can help.

You never cease to amaze me.
Wonderful idea, unfortunately from now on most of my posts will be quite bitter...so there will be no room for jokes and sarcasm on my behalf.

you won't let me down...
