The joys of being in Highschool...
Alright...
While there is a 19+ crowd on these boards, there are some of us which are STILL in that great thing they call 'Highschool'.
This is a thread where the ups and downs of school can be discussed, and yes...you elders [that is to say, anyone who's graduated from
highschool] can come here and pat our shoulders and tell us it's gonna be okay.
What doesn't break you can only make you stronger right?
SO...what makes Highschool such a pain in the ass to get through?
Discuss.

a piece of advise for those who are starting hs or still have a bit of time left in hs
i learned in highschool that you want to be popular. alot of ppl say popularity isn't neccesarily the best thing, and to an extent it may not
be. but being popular doesn't exactly mean being the hottest chick or the most handsome guy or being captian of the football team or anything
like that. i learned that you want to have all the friends you possibly can have. and not just aquantances (or however u spell that word), but even an
aquantance is better than nothing. make friends with anyone and everyone you can, make friends with ppl of all types of cliques and groups. be popular
by being known and a friend to everyone you possibly can be. that doesn't mean you need to be class president or anything.
making as many friends as possible can lead to many good things for you in the future, especially if you keep in touch with those people after
highschool. if you can trust your friends and they can trust you, life will be much easier later on in life because you can always call on them when
you need to.
also, (this goes for anyone) listen to any and all advise that is ever offered to you. you may or may not want to heed that advise but it could save
you a lot of time and trouble if you do. teachers, parents, grandparents especially, all have many things to teach and its always good to atleast
listen to what they have to say. regardless of what you may think, they have been there and done that before so they know what they're talking
about. i've learned this lesson the hard way quite a few times before but once i realized that these older people do know what they're
talking about, their advise has saved my ass many times.

It all goes downhill after high school...
Well, not really. I hated high school...and, yet, I still miss it. I always wish I could go back with the knowledge and confidence that I have now,
and prove to people that I am not just a quiet loser that no one talks to. I don't think after 5 years anyone really knew my name. I was just a
shadow in high school. I did my time, passed (barely) and got the fuck out. Now I wish I had more experiences...even the shitty ones. But then again,
I did have enough friends that didn't go to my high school. I was only a "loser" while I was at school. I just regret not doing most
of the things that people do in high school. I never went to a dance, prom...grad. Nothing.
High School brings on alot of stress, but you learn from it all. There shouldn't be any regrets for you when it's done. Just be confident
and fearless (even if you're terrified inside) when you roam the halls and sit in class. Don't take shit from anyone. There were those
few days when I was in school that I walked with my head in the air, instead of facing my feet - and I always felt better on those days.
I don't think I'm going anywhere with this, so I'll just stop...

[Part of this is at the “picture” thread...I’ve added a shitload of things to it, so read it again, dammit.]
Since this thread is already getting some great responses, I might as well rant about my pathetic excuse for an All-girl highschool...Holy
Name of Mary.
First of all, there's the uniform issue.
Girls at my Highschool dress like skanks because it makes them feel 'empowered'.
THAT pisses me off.
Over 85% of the students (according to the principal) dress like "little sluts". Their kilts are like two inches under their ass....the
shirts are skin tight on them, the push up bra is on...TONS of makeup...fixed hair..
It's an ALL GIRL SCHOOL for Christ's sake!
NO one gives a fuck what you look like at 7 in the morning...you're not impressing anyone.(Unless of course you're sleeping with one of
the teachers or you are a butch lesbian)
It BOTHERS me SO much to have to be going up the stairs and even without trying you see like 20 girls wearing nothing but a thong under their fucking
kilt..like..SERIOUSLY...
If you're gonna be a ho...go to a co-ed school and get laid.
Does the administration take any type of action? No. They've given up...don't even bother giving suspensions or detentions, or handing out
dress passes. Do your parents not see how you walk out of the house each morning?!
I know they idolize Britney Spears and try to make their CATHOLIC SCHOOL uniform into some slutty "Baby,One MoreTime" style outfit,
but that's not the purpose.
The purpose of a uniform is to WEAR THE DAMN UNIFORM for what it is.
Now, onto the next point.
Most parents send girls to HNM to get them away from boys...this means that these girls are THE biggest sluts of DufferinPeel Region ALL together in
ONE building with 825 students total.
They're SO boy-crazy..it amuses me!
Whenever a guy drives by the drive-thru blasting his gino beats (YUCK) you can see like at least 50-60 heads pop out of windows and try and see who it
is..
Seriously, go fuck yourself! The guy's not there to pick you all up..
I've had several guy friends come pick me up during my lunches and whatever, and I'll be standing there waiting for him to come, and
there's like a couple of girls standing at the porch as well, they see the car coming and go "Do I look okay?!?!" and roll up their
kilt..WTF!!!!!!
Then they get pissed because I get into the car...bwahah.
Most girls make it seem as if they’ve never seen a boy in their life, they become animals, savages even ready to jump at the first male they see.
Recently, for some idiotic reason a new teacher joined the staff. This is a man who is not even above 30 years of age. He’s VERY goodlooking, I’ll
admit that. But now you have girls ranging from grade 9-12 trying to talk to him every chance they get, sucking up to him, making way for him to walk
through, and flirting with him. He’s a TEACHER! Do you not realize he could be sent to jail if he slept with any of you? Oh my god..
They don’t seem to care, they still literally prance on the poor man as if he were some type of fresh steak or something. (shudders)
Also, as if that weren't enough...
There's the IDIOT niners who think they own the school and walk around with the little “let me exagerate my hip movement as I walk” type
of move. Most of them are "solid-gina-bambina-diesel-mint" idiot girls who have no idea what it truly means to wear true name brands..not
their fake gucci shit.
These are girls who will go to the washroom (which due to the poor maintenance from not just the custodians but the girls as well keeps FLOODING) and
sit on the floor and try to pierce each other's belly button with a KILT PIN....excuse me, can you say health hazard? NO..of course not,
you're too big of a moron to know that.
HYGIENE AT HOLY NAME IS BRUTAL.
I cannot stress this point enough, it is disgusting what goes on in the school, mainly the washrooms.
Being a girl at an ALL girl school, means that at least ONE girl everyday will be going through her period [yeah, sorry to get nasty here guys]..so,
you expect them to be clean about it and deal with their business on a logical/rational manner..right?
WRONG! Most girls almost do things on PURPOSE to make things nasty. These girls will
a) flush pads down the toilet.
b) just leave them on the ground instead of at the proper disposal unit.
c) STICK THEM TO THE BATHROOM DOOR.
Arggghhhhh! Do you have any idea how close I was to THROWING UP when I saw that? I wanted to like have the school closed down for fuck’s sake!..
Also..the bathrooms are ALWAYS flooding.
The cafeteria is filthy.
The building has the exact same installations it had back in 1960 and NOTHING has been changed, many things are falling apart and need soonish
reparation, but they don’t “have the money” for it. Whaaateverrrr..
The academic side has its good side...I guess...a very small good side..but it’s better than everything else I guess..
Sorry about the rant guys...but quite honestly. HNM pisses me off ,big time.
Holy Name of Mary is supposed to stand for "Hoes NO More" but it's the complete oppposite. I am not saying that every single student
in the school is that way (I mean, look at me..do I act like that?) but the vast majority do...and it gives our school SUCH a bad rep.
Plus...they’re holding auditions for a cheerleading team. [cracks up laughing]

Ha ha ha, cheerleading in an all girls school. Oh, kind of kinky lesbianish shit! Well my high school stinks, literally. You'd think people
could shower every day, but no... More than half of the kids have THE WORST bo. It's quite disgusting.

I just skimmed this thread and there have been so many great points made that I don't want to have to write an essay.
I think high school provides a wealth of good experiences but also a manifold of poor ones as well.
High school is cliquey. Yes, it sucks and as someone said in the thread it's all about popularity. However, if you're not trying to be
someone you're not, you'll make friends. There will always be different crowds of people who socialize together.
I think in high school you really start to become comfortable with yourself as a person. By the time you leave, you might be slightly more jaded than
when you entered school but you'll have grown a tremendous amount as a person.
This will only become more apparrant to you as you get into post-seconday education or work.
In the end, it's just about sticking to your guns, getting your work done, and having a good time with friends while you're at it.

You should let your parents read that little, post, Dez. Maybe they will think twice about sending you there in the future. On the door? Jesus.
You know in the 5 years I went to Nelson, I never even walked into a washroom? I always went home if I had to go. No, this is no "finch"
shit, it was actually just as convenient for me to walk home as it was to walk across the school.
Man, I don't know how I passes through High School. I never went to class. By years end, most of my classes I had skipped around 35
times...except art class. I always liked art.

I got out of high school as fast as I could. One of the worst experiences of my life and I'm glad I took the road to an alternative school just
to get my diploma and to get out. If I could go back now I'd probably would of worked a lot harder. The popularity side to it is a piece of
shit... main reason ure there is to learn. I'm glad that it's mostly past by now. I learned a lot from being the quiet one that always
kept his head down.

knows. Ever since that day when I saw the pad on the door, I never stepped into an HNM washroom again.

ahh ha ha ha. High school for me is alright. The bathrooms are okay considering the two in a school of 2,000 that are ever open. It is cliquey and
that kind of pisses me off because they all heard in the same place...aka in front of my locker. Most of them could be nice separately, but together
it gets ugly. I guess thats typical. I've got friends, I guess that counts. I think people associate me with two "groups" that I
have good friends in. The kind of preppy ones and the younger ska/punk group. I say that only cause there are older ones that hang around together and
younger ones together...but kinda the same spot and stuff. Well its hard to explain. So social life I guess is good. It's the best of both
worlds.
On the other hand There are 4 forces that are constantly watching over your every move.......
Stick- He is the commander on a mission known as "smokers corner." On which he patrols at this corner every moment he is not
patrolling the hallways for pety violations of the code of conduct. He also has the power to walk into a classroom in a single bound and interrupt
anything that is going on, and get away with it. One of the leaders in the cafeteria=food plan. And an average user of the walkie talkies.
Polaroid By far the nerdiest in the group. Got is name from the polaroid camera he carrries around his neck every day. The head hall monitor.
Has a level of extremly high on the walkie talkie usage scale.
Blondy The newest member of the team. Is getting new administrative acclaim for her skill of whats that look you gave me? SUSPENDED! A moderate
user of the walkie talkie. Likes to wear nice clothes to decieve her evil side.
Tornado By far the most evil being to walk the school grounds. Got her name from the unexplainable hair do she wears every day. A huge
supporter of the cafeteria=food plan (meaning the cafeteria is the only place for food, not counting the 8 vending machines located around the school
halls) A holy fuck! level on the walkie talkie usage scale. Able to make students of all ages cringe and hold their breathe as she draws near. Known
particularly for standing over your shoulder and listening while you have a harmless conversation with your friends. she is filled with a terror that
only Hitler could rival. She is the leader of the group.
Those are my four vice principals.
I don't even know what i just wrote was, excuse it for sounding stupid.

his belt, followed closely by a girl wiping off her mouth? My school is just...disgusting.

I understand what you mean, Rievax, about going back to high school with what you know now. There is so much stuff that you let slip by that you would
just not take after you've been out of high school for awhile. The thing about high school, (well actually any point in your life, but
especially high school) is that everything seems so damn important and meaningful at the time, but when you look back it's so insignificant.
Looking back at high school from a university perspective is really amazing. I think back about stupid crushes and various interpersonal issues and
see how little they really mean in the grand scheme of things, but how stressed they could make me at the time. It's really not worth it to get
so hung up on that stuff. You really haven't seen anything yet (in general, although some of you may have).
Yes, and Jeff is quite right about the women's washrooms.... And these women were adults too. I can only imagine these same women before they
were "mature". Terrible.

My school DOES have washrooms that are *just* for the girls, and washroom that are *just* for the guys. So I really don't see the point in
having unisex washrooms. That's just asking for trouble.

Paige that is so fucked up.
my school is "special" so it doesnt really fit into any of the school steriotypes. first of all it's private. secondly it's
grades 6 - 9 so ill be gone by june. and we go on three 1 week/2 week bike trips each year.
but anyway, all my teachers are really cool. one of them i comsider a good friend. ive hung out with him on weekends before. yeah he's my
spanish/music/drama teacher, and my soccer coach.
but since it's private there are only 150 people. and most are younger punks. there are about 4 younger students in the whole school who
aren't annoying. which pretty much just leaves my grade. 39 people. i am good friends with most of them. there are just about 6 of them who are
hippies/jerks who i dont like. it's cool cause i have a ton of friends, but there comes a point when you get board of the same people every day
and you look to broaden your horizons. and at my school you just cant do that. so next year's MUCH bigger school will be better.
but other than that, my school is awesome. some of my bes experiences have been at this school (mostly on the bike trips)
so ya i pretty much really like my school.
