Instant message feature

Hey guys.. i was just thinking it would super cool if we could get some sort of instant messaging thingy on this site. For people who are online obviously. .it would save pm box room, and i dunno could be fun, or have like a live chat room or something... just a thought...

As it is an interesting idea, it's not going to happen. I recently discussed this with Bart, and it just didn't seem like the right idea.

First of all, it will take away from the boards overall posts, and that's not good. The surprisingly large post count on this message board can add the appeal for new people to sign up. And it has other benefits, too. Also, if people really want to message eachother, simply go onto MSN or icq or whatever you have. It's essentially the same thing as what you are asking for. Another reason, PM's give the advantage to ignore someone if you want. Personally, I know I'd almost feel obligated to instant message the people that are online, without it, I can reply to the threads I want and log off if I'm not in a chatty mood.

I agree the PM's add up quick. Possibly make a larger PM count for people that request it.

I have a feeling tremendous will not be making an sort of drastic change to the site until the album's launch, anyway.

it's just like reivax said. i was thinking about adding a chat system, but decided against it. but i've now increased everyone's PM quota.

*ahem*

If I could direct you towards such programs as MSN, Yahoo and AIM, I'm sure you'll find ample opportunity to chat your little heads off.

I am personally very much against MSN or any other type of instant messaging. It just frustrates me. I log on and in the first minute of being on ‘Online’ status I’ve already been bombarded with different convos popping up at me.
SO annoying!

If you take into account the fact that I’m just SUCH a nice person, I can’t block anyone…so, I try to talk to everyone who messages me..but then others get annoyed and they’re like “Dez, why are you ignoring me?” just because it took me 10 seconds instead of 2 to reply!

Plus, most people who talk to me on MSN (with a small exception of some particular people) have nothing relevant to say..ever!
It’s just something like:

Hey
Sup
Nm u
Nm
How r u
Good u
Good, so sup?

And then it becomes an ongoing cycle of stupid questions.

When someone messages me and we end up talking about cooking and I’m typing out tricks and recipes, that’s fine. When someone is trying to talk about Canadian History with me, that’s fine…even when someone is talking to me about life and love, that’s fine.
But random conversations like that that are literally going NOWHERE piss me off. A lot

But…I don’t know what point I was trying to make here.
Oh yeah! The PM thing. I like PMs a lot more because you are able to control who you want to talk to, and who you want to ignore.
If you’re not in a good mood, you don’t have to reply. There is not as much pressure lol.
Plus, since it’s a PM, the sender is kinda forced to write a little bit more than just “Hey sup”..though, they could do that..come to think about it.

Okay, end rant. Now.

am i one of those people??? ha! dez you missed our big convo yesterday me, nick, big d (darnel),marcel, jenny, and amanda. we were missin you! then we could over power the french speakin guys( nothin wrong with the french. I love em all!) but when all they do is converse with each other in french its quite annoying!(ok Darnel didnt but hey hes my cool buddy).

but with this im i have to agree with both sides

Pros: pm box doesnt get filled so quickly
less spam = no losing post count (tisk, tisk shame on me! lol)
will be less hassle than msn then you can talk to only the livid forum people.

cons: barts post. (yes too lazy to type it out. and come on its not that hard to scroll up and read it. now is it?)

P.S. I think i know the reason behind all of this! but I'll never telllllllll.

Heh, I have a bad habit of not saying much in PM's. That said i have written some long ones as well, so it all evens out in the end.

Worst thing on messenger programs for me is when this happens:

Hey
Sin
SIN
SIN?!?!?!?!
you there?
Sin?
come on!!!!!!
fuck you arsehole
answer me damnit

*30 seconds after original message*

You wanted me?

Anyway, I actually spend hours on useless conversations with one guy, probably my best friend from back in Wodonga, and we'd basically just talk about everything and anything. No matter how utterly pointless it is, it's good because he's hilarious and always manages to make me laugh in every conversation.

I also have a thing on those programs where I actually don't have anyone in my lists, I'll allow people to talk to me (never blocked anyone), but then delete them from my list straight after and just remember their e-mail, then I only talk to someone if I need to talk to them, not just for idle chit chat.

I myself LOVE msn

I ususally can talk to someone on it for hours, so ya...
i also like it cuz i am good at multitasking so i am able to carry on convos with more then one person at once, and its a lot easier then takling on the phone sometimes cuz it saves a lot on long dtstance

sometimes i just like it cuz i can talk to people i havent talked to in a LONG time, or i like to have geeky convos about nothing with people

thats my randmoness for the day
