gotta love a five-neck guitar. I actually saw cheap trick live and the guy was using this guitar...

And, I think I would rather have this 12-string bass than an 8-string guitar. I wouldn't even know where to begin using an 8-string guitar.

The only example of a 12-string bass I can give you is the whole outro of "Jeremy" by Pearl Jam.

holy shit that is a lot of strings. That five head guitar looks so odd, kind of fake in a sense I guess.

I remember when I saw the dude play it live, I was all excited. I was nudging my friend and pointing. I don't know, it just looks cool. There is absolutely no need for it. My buddy just looked at me and shook his head in an unimpressed way. Then I calmed down and realized that it was just for show. I don't even think the guy used more than one neck during the song.

Bart, what is the difference between the necks on that thing? Is one fretless, baritone...? I can't really tell.

To me, guitars are like the way most guys think about cars. I don't care about cars, but if I see a nice guitar I get all excited and it makes me want to play or talk about 'em.

You don't actually hold them at the same time. You can switch in between songs. For example, one neck could have 12 strings and could sound great in a verse, but come time you need to play a solo or even something heavier, you would want to switch to the neck with the 6 strings.

It's a rare sight for a band to use more than one neck nowadays. The only band that I can think of that is not from the 70's that uses them is Big Sugar.

yeah, it's the same for me.

i suppose with that 5 neck guitar you could tune each one differently, so you wouldn't have to change guitars during a show... but it's still quite excessive. Bart, i dont think ive ever seen a headless guitar... until now.

That Yggdrasil one looks kinda useful, if you're into fretless that is. I'm wondering though, and I hope you can help me with this, what's with the thirteen short strings on the left side of the guitar, is it to simulate another instrument or just to get really pingy (for lack of a better word) sounds?

i didn't even realize that it was headless. I've seen headless guitars before...I think they are pretty ugly, actually. I never understood how they work before. I guess you just string them backwards and tune them at the bridge.

I think they used headless guitars a little more in the 80's.

Sin, my guess is it is like some sort of harp. If so, I think that is the coolest part of the guitar.

I wonder what a fretless 6-string would sound like. I don't think I have ever heard one.

yeah the left neck is fretless. headless works just like you said, reivax. string them backwards and tune at the bottom. i think that's true, anyway. the 13 little strings are "drone strings" - they're tuned to all different notes, i think, so that at least one of them will resonate no matter what note you're playing on the other heads. so you get underlying notes under what you're playing. i guess you could strum them too if they're tuned to a chord (or a discord, if you're into that).
