you know the most important thing i ever learnt about music? almost EVERY song has at least one little bit that is likeable. concentrate on that bit,
and the whole song is tolerable. in this way, you can find some way to endure the tortures of justin timberlake or, indeed, underoath.
i seriously doubt that you've actually listened to more than a handful of songs by each of those bands, you might find that you actually love
some of them if you gave them a decent chance. a couple of years back i got hold of the fear factory album "remanufacture", and it was
shite. recently, i picked up "archetype" and realised that "remanufacture" was a real low point for the band -
"archetype" (and pretty much every other album by them, it seems) is fucking awesome.
the underlying point is that you MUST keep an open mind when listening to music, there's no point saying "oh, i don't like Band X
because they are punk" when you haven't actually given them a fair chance. i'm a complete metal head, yet drumming as a career has
taught me that there is a lot of good music outside of metal. i've been involved in projects that play music ranging from jazz to world music to
drum and bass to pop, and somehow managed to appreciate aspects of each style.
always maintain an open mind

ok ok guys...... this is a list that my ex girlfriend made of all the bands she loves. she turned totally punk and stopped loving me because i wasnt
punk. you all know that story. but yes Chris, i agree with you on the part about focusing on the good part of a song. and Mark, im into rock and i
guess a little bit of punk... but i cant stand when the punk singers scream and whine and it sounds like they're gonna cry right on stage. punk
is about style more than the music, which is why i hate (most of) it

What! Wow.......Pearl Jam, too? My god. Pearl Jam are amazing. NIN? Sweet jesus, no!.
You could have just saved yourself some time by saying you hate Emo. To be frank, I think 90 percent of people that "hate emo" just hate
the word and the image it represents, not so much the music. I think the word is gay, and I personally think the whole emo thing is beyond redundant
and makes little sense.
I can't think of many bands I hate. If I can think of one, I'll post it. One day you'll realize that loathing a band is pointless
and looking at the positive side of music is always a good thing.

No one here hates you for your taste in music, I'd say you're the only one here with that attitude. While I mean no offense (well, ok,
just a little), that's a pretty lame excuse for not liking particular music. You're way too hung up on this girl, you're 16, get
over it. There are plenty of other girls out there, and before you say you were in "love" or something retarded like that, I reiterate,
you're 16, you have no idea what love is.
As for disliking music, there's a number of styles I just can't enjoy, simply because they don't appeal to me. I can recognise a
good musician (even if they play music I can't listen to) but that won't mean I will listen, it just means I'll appreciate them for
their ability to entertain. As an example I'm not overly interested in dance music, but some of it is obviously pretty intricate, and in some
cases (not all unfortunately) the artist creates the samples they work with (Moby being a good example of this, he also seems to be a great guy, as
indicated by the interviews he has done, incredibly funny bastard), rather than just taking samples from elsewhere.

Ok you dont like punk. but David Bowie? thats just so random. He's a totally different style of music from a totally different era. not to
mention the other bands on there that arent punk or emo such as NIN or Pearl Jam. it may be the list of bands that your ex loved, but you could have
at least edited it to make your point clearer and more concise.
and nobody is hating you for hating a style of music. that's just plain ignorant.

No one's getting mad here, we just want to know why that is. And some of us are in a little bit of disbelief. And we may be getting you wrong a
little, but you did say "i dont have a problem with Nine Inch Nails... but they're on her list, so they are on my list".

Sorry if I sounded harsh, but you really made it look like your only basis for disliking the music was because it was on your ex's playlist.
Although you did explain why you dislike punk (not surprisingly for much the same reason I do), I'm not a huge fan of the screaming either,
though I'm starting to get past that since I'm discovering just how incredible the rest of the band can be musically in most punk bands. I
still can't handle the heavy metal style screaming, the whole gruff, harsh screaming/singing. Sounds a bit too monotone for my liking.
