Emo
Alright I just wanted to know people's opinion on The Livid being more emo than just plain alternative. I've never heard an alternative
band with lyrics like that. Other than Ben Folds Five but they also did some horrible shit. Anyways I think it would be awesome to see The Livid on
tour with bands like The Beautiful Mistake... Further Seems Forever... maybe Rufio or The Lyndsay Diaries...

We would all like to see Livid get a high profile support slot
But all this genre talk gets confusing
Supporting Rufio would be great, I just dont think its a good match.
Why have you called this thread Emo ?

Dude, I have news for you. Emo doesn't really exist. It's a buzzword started by people trying to classify bands with certain lyrical
content. Then when you actually start listening to lots of music you see that all bands sing about themes of love, life, loss and inspiration. The
nature of music is to be emotional and thus, emo does not exist.

welcome to the forums nickelback. Emo doesn't exist as the other guy pointed out. Rufio is such a crazy ass band. The crazyness just flows out
of their pours.

Emo
Well, yeah. I think the whole genre naming thing is pretty bad. I could care less as long as their good. I've just always saw The Livid under
Alternative on mp3.com.

The Livid are alternative? What are they an alternative too? They're pretty rock... But they're definately not an alt. to rap or R&B
or Hip Hop. Even though Justin's look in V.E was pretty thug-ish. LOL!

As soon as I saw this thread I knew Jeff would post that emo doesn't exist. He is quite fanatical about it.

I would compare The Livid to some band called "Incubus".... There not very popular and they have some cool black guy scratching these
circular objects.
Both bands have great lyrics, amazin guitar riffs, and the bass and drums are wicked too! But how come The Livid don't have a black DJ guy?
Would you agree that they're pretty damn similar?

I'm assuming your being sarcastic about Incubus not being popular (unless u live in some third world country that doesnt even know what a wheel
is (no offense intended)). I live in america where Incubus is VERY popular.
i also dont get where ppl compare The Livid to bands like Incubus and Finger Eleven. True they are similar in music, but not in sound (imo anyway).
all three bands (i just named) create rock music. Incubus has more of a "hiphop" style (if u will) where as Finger Eleven has more of a
harder rock touch (loud and very simple crunch riffs w/ screaming vocals, as well as actual singing). I wouldnt say that The Livid has that
"hiphop" touch or that very "hard" touch. they guitar lines tend to be complicated yet simple. very up beat but not exactly
"hiphop". loud and distorted but not the same 3 or 4 chords over and over w/ someone screaming on top of that. i find it somewhat dificult
to really compare them to another band (or atleast an extreamly popular band). the best way i would describe is their music is somewhat of a mix
between older rock music (such as the Eagles or something) where they actually put time and effort into writing their music and make it sound nice,
and also mixed w/ the newer hard rock (or as the local radio station here puts it, "Modern Rock".
i have a hard time trying to explain this where it makes sense and just as hard of a time classifying The Livid as any specifc genre or type of rock
music.

he he he, the closest thing the livid has to that is Justin in the Velvet Empire video. He was the DJ boy, except he isn't black.

I own all 3 finger eleven records plus their independent release as the rainbow butt monkies and I've never heard any screaming in their music.
I hear agressive shouted singing, but no screaming.

Yes I was sarcastically talking about how Incubus is not popular. Very good point kaitlynn, you are well educated in the field of past music videos.
Jeff, listen to 'Good Times', I would say the chours has mild screaming in it, nothing like Slipknot or some Metallica. But it has some
mild screaming.

I still say he's shouting.
Go listen to some poison the well, thrice, walls of jherico, open hand, or boys night out.
Those are bands that scream.
And the chorus of good times? PLEASE! That's so far from screaming.
not everyone can hold the same opinion on things, even after research but i get the symbolism.. i think it's neat (although that's not the
best word to describe it)
