Hmm..interesting topic Mark!
Now, I already know my answer...but, question is:
Do you mean having two guitarists? Or having one replace the other?...
A-ha! That would change my mind in an instant..

For playing live, a second guitarist would be helpful, but they're perfect with just one.

Well, I've never been to any of their shows, BUT!
I think that the idea of having a second guitarist, in my opinion, wouldn't work out.. I mean, even though some of the members of the band left
and Chris got new people. Having another guitarist would feel kinda weird 'cuz it's bringing a new person along...yeah sure, he'll
fit in right on and everyone will be supportive, but some of us are used to hearing about 4 members in TheLivid, so 5 would be an odd number (stupid
remark, i know).
Another thing, is that I think that a second guitarist would make the 1st guitarist's job much easier...now that there's two to sorta take
turns.
If there's just one, he'll get more credit, people will be like "wow" all the time (like it is now).
But that's just me trying to think at 1:45PM....Not working very well.
After all, it would have to be the band's decision..

Personally I think a second guitarist would work but isn't necessary at all in their music seeing as how Chris writes guitar parts that are very
suited to being played by one guitar.

Leave it as one. That is, unless they want me to play 2nd guitar...

Hah, what an offer !
Due to my lack of musical knowledge, I dont know how to explain it..
I like the sound of layered guitairs ? Like the main chuga chuga riff, with the smaller delicate melody going though it
Go mark.
Maybe Jeff is right , and it doesnt suit Chris's writing style

Would be cool if there was a second guitarist playing rhythm, while Chris plays lead. Would allow him to focus on his uber fancy stuff.
Having said that, they don't need one at all in my eyes.

The old lineup of the Livid did have two guitarists. Jeremey used to play guitar, and then he stopped. They obviously have their reasons for playing
with one guitarist.
Although maybe that's different because he was singing also... I don't know

I still think one guitarist is best for The Livid. Although the guitar parts Chris writes are very complex and impressive, it's not showoff
guitar music, and all two guitars would do is basically allow them to show off, what with guitar solos and harmonies. This can of course be good to
listen to, but wouldn't suit The Livid's music. In my opinion.

Being a bassist, i say a second guitarist is just a way to drown out the bass since they play the same thing. i think chris has is tight and fills the
void of... ....... .....well im not making sense but yea, you know what i mean. i hope.

Matt, for a bass player than wasn't a very musically intelligent comment. A second guitarist does not serve to drown out the bass unless you
have a really shitty second guitarist who turns up very loud. While a rhythm guitar can be part of an actual rhythm section it can also serve to
bridge the gap between the rhythm section and the lead players. All this can be done while adding texture and/or complexity to the song/parts that
are being played.

just because you have 2 guitars doesn't mean you have to show off. nor does it automatically condemn one guitarist to play the bassline.
the bands that utilize 2 guitars the best are ones that don't designate one as lead and the other as rhythm. it's just 2 guitar players,
with 2 styles, that work very well.
examples:
rufio
a perfect circle
smashing pumpkins
sparta
