RobH vs. Little Lady- Post Off
Ok, I'm bored so being the initaitive taker that I am, I've decided to start the posting contest.
Now, it won't be judged on how many posts you do, rather how good your posts are. I'll ramble off a topic and then RobH and Little Lady
will ramble on about that topic.. Similar to a debate.
Now, here's where the rest of us come in. When both ppl have posted, you vote.. and the first person to win 10 rounds.. IS THE ULTIMATE
POSTER.
Now, first topic- Unsigned Bands.
one last show.

The night's as hot as hell. It's a lousy room in a lousy part of a lousy town - I'm staring at a goddess. She's telling me she
wants me. I'm not going to waste one more minute wondering how I've gotten this lucky. She smells like angels ought to smell, the perfect

That was uncalled for, but merci beaucoup Paige!
Okay
So...who goes first? Is there a limit of time for how long we can take in replying to the topic?
How many words are we allowed to use?
Thanks!

There's no limit on how long it can be.. I guess Chris will step in if it gets WAY boring. No one "goes first" when ever your ready
to post, just post. If you don't reply by November 13th 2003, than the round will go to the other person.
So that's all the questions anwsered. I guess if anyone wants to challenge any one else, this could be some sort of competitive thing. Send me
PM's I guess if you wanna challenge someone.

Oh man... I haven't even SEEN this thread yet and Chris is already bored... This is bound to end tragically.
It's funny that you should mention unsigned bands, though, because I was just driving home, listening to the radio for the first time in months
and thinking how many terrible SIGNED bands are out there (read as: Hot Hot Heat). Good god. I haven't missed anything by getting my musical
fixed from local acts, such as Idle Sons and the Livid for the last little while... although I guess technically Idle Sons doesn't count as
unsigned anymore. The thing about unsigned bands is that it can feel a lot more personal. Who doesn't go to one of these local shows hoping that
this band will make it big, so that someday you can tell people that you saw them play at the local YMCA and there were only 8 other people there...
including the band, and that you "chilled" with the band afterwards.
Well, I don't really have anything else to say... I just wanted to vent about how bad Hot Hot Heat is... and the new DMB song is horrible too.
Gravedigger.... what was he thinking.

-Unsigned Bands-
Considering I was not given an argument to begin with, it will be hard to accurately approach this topic. You have asked both of us to debate
about UNSIGNED BANDS yet in no moment did you actually set an "argument". That way we’d be able to have an actual on-line, yet
nevertheless still a ‘debate’ and one of us would be able to support the argument while the other one would be against it, yada yada yada. That is
what I meant by getting a further explanation on how this is going to work. I probably didn’t state this clearly before.
I do think this is an AMAZING idea for a thread, and a way to get not only our intellectual sides "out there" but also for
everyone to get involved in different ways, plus it would be quite informative for most of us. I have no intention of posting ‘nonsense’ on any part
of this, in fact I think this is the perfect opportunity for some of you to see the difference between my "hyper/crazy/bubbly" persona,
and what the actual ME is really like.
In order for me to sound intelligent there has, or at least there should be, some sort of content to this. I am almost certain that Rob feels the same
way about this, yet I can’t put words into his mouth, so I’ll definitely listen to what he has to say once he gets to this thread and reads this.
To end my rambling.. The subject of "Unsigned Bands" is extremely broad, and we could end up here for ages, so if there is anyway you
guys can be more specific on what exactly the debate is about, I’d really appreciate it..VERY, VERY MUCH.
I just thought it would only be fair if I brought this to the table...and got some sort of feedback on how the rest of you feel.
Maybe I’m just not reading properly and not understanding what the idea here is.
Don’t take this as me trying to put the idea down, because truth is I am so "into it" that I want it to work out, so the use of brain
neurons is worth it , heheh..just teasing.
If it helps...I LOVE YOU ALL!!
(the text above was previously written by me, I saved it onto a word doc...now I'm in the process of reading what Rob posted..and I guess
I'll come up with something..I guess then the topic is how we feel about unsigned bands?)

Ish, honestly the only thing I can say to that is....
(clears throat) Ahemm..
*breaks into a song*
Did you ever know that you're my heeeeeeroooooo....
HAHAHAH...Only *I* am allowed to sing Bette Midler songs to you hahaha..
--------------
Anyway, to continue on this topic.
In my opinion...bands that have amazing, even SUPERB talent..should not go un-noticed..However, sometimes unfortunately they do.
That does not mean it is fair, but at the same time, sometimes the situations are inevitable.
Being someone that is trying to get into the music industry herself, it is very "frustrating" to see bands like for example, Mississauga
based band TheLivid not being signed, these are people who have exceeded all of my expectations in a band, and no..I’m not practising favouritism
here.
.
I cannot be on the CON side of this argument..at all, I feel pretty much the exact same way.
Listening to what an Unsigned band does, to what an actual signed band creates, is completely different.
I personally had never been really introduced to any type of "unsigned artists" until about this year, so obviously Rob would have much
more experience on this than myself, but I do know one thing..
I would rather see TheLivid than Justin Timberlake…ANY DAY.
Now, don’t think I’m comparing one to the other, these are 2 completely opposite ideas. What I’m trying to get at is that when you go see someone like
the guys from TheLivid…PRECISLY because they are not as well-known, their shows are much more accessible, and the atmosphere in the crowd is
completely different. By the end, everyone knows each other, you’ve got something in common with at least 3 people you saw, the guys will probably be
very approachable if you wish to talk to them.
While. At a Justin Timberlake concert you’d have thousands of people squealing and literally losing themselves in a crowd, because…who really cares if
you made it to the show or not. Not Justin, not the musicians that play with him, not any of the other fans, no one. Because, you are like a grain of
rice, in a bag full…pretty ordinary.
It is wonderful to see, that even though TheLivid is not yet BIG, they have such a strong fan base, not only here…but worldwide, and I doubt that it
is something that will go away anytime soon.
Most unsigned bands, just like TheLivid have EXTREMELY talented individuals and in my opinion , they are bound to make it someday, probably in the
most unexpected way.
In the meantime all we can do for them is make sure we keep buying the merch they come out with (I am still literally PRAYING they come out with
touques..haha, it would give a completely different meaning to my life) and just mainly supporting them in any way we can, tell our friends about
them, promote them...whatever.
Yup, you should all become promo-whores with me, and live happily ever after.
There ya go,
you won't let me down...

I know I'm not one of the 2 posters in the topic, so I hope I can say a little something about one of the points Rob made. I agree that unsigned
bands fans have a personal attachment to them, but it's almost too personal. Because in alot of cases as soon as a band finally does get signed,
the "true" fans get all jealous just like a boyfriend or girlfriend, hate all the new fans and eventually declare the band a sellout.
I've seen it so many times and I think the same thing will happen to this band when things go good for them. By a few people anyway. It's
really basically, like I already said, a boyfriend/girlfriend situation.

That is totally true. Ironically the attraction people have with unsigned bands is what causes the band to grow and possibly even get signed, which in
turn pushes some of the original followers away because the band isn't as special to them anymore - it's no longer their own. What does
that say about how much a person really likes the band, then? I don't know... Something to think about. Also in my opinion, the idea of
"selling out" is by and large a huge pile of bullshit, although I have no interest in explaining myself right now though.

i completely agree too. I hate when people declare(sp) a band turned into a sell out just because they were on muchmusic or they signed or something.
I've thought this for a long time just never had the chance to say uit but i completely agree with u 2^^^
