I'm thinking of finally picking up a guitar and starting to play it.
It'd help a lot with my singing and the songwriting I do.
I feel more tempted to pick up guitar than piano for some reason.
Since you're all far more guitar savvy than I am, is there a particular type of acoustic guitar one should start with? What's the best way
to learn, what's the typical range in prices..etc.
I might still bring someone in to buy the guitar with me, but any info would be much appreciated.
you won't let me down...

Weird. What are the the odds, really? I post a topic about a killer acoustic player named Justin King and you post a thread about a player named Kaki
King...and they have the exact same tapping/slapping tecnique. That's just awesome. She's amazing.
I've been recently using a slapping sound with my acoustic. I find it sounds really sweet with the 12 strings. And the strings are very loose on
my guitar and that adds to some of the nice sounds it gives.
Dez, a guitar is alot more convenient than a piano. Pianos are quite restricting and you can only play in the place where it's set up. Guitars
you can take anywhere at anytime and it's not a pain in the butt. I also think that it's alot easier to pick up a guitar and learn how to
play it quicker. I don't know if that's true, but it seems that way.
Good call on getting an acoustic. It's not quite as easy to play as an electric, but it's, imo, better for someone who is starting out
with their playing. Once again, it's more convenient because you wont have to haul around an amp and chords and such. You can probably get
yourself a decent acoustic guitar for roughly $200. I'm sure you can get one for cheaper, but you don't want a real piece of garbage. I
started with a real hunk of garbage and it was really difficult. I've seen many Yamaha's go for that price. My sister actually just bought
one for when she went to the Dominican. It was actually really nice. I played it for second. They even threw in a free case. I owned a yamaha
acoustic, and it was pretty nice and affordable, so check it out.

check out this monster. found it because i just discovered something about fanned-fret necks and i really want one now. not necessarily a monsterous
9-string bass - more likely a baritone 6-string or a 7-string. or an acoustic 6-string. these fanned-fret guitars are really rare though, as far as i
know.
the idea of a fanned-fret neck is that the lower strings have a longer scale length, so the intonation is easier to get spot on and there's more
tension, useful if you want to use dropped tunings.
and apparently you can play one and not even notice it's fanned - it's that easy to get used to. plus they look the dog's
bollocks.

SEVEN STRINGS!!
it's a schecter a7-plus (avenger).
it's going to be hard getting used to the wide neck.

Aw, you bastard. Now you have more guitars than me.
Very metal looking. I dig. I don't think I'd ever want a 7-string, though. Can't think of much to do with it. I would definitely
have to buy some heavy ass strings, tune it majorly down and play "hexagram" by defotnes properly.

you can even play seven different songs all at the same time. it probably wouldn't sound very good mind.
just bought a 5 guitar stand on ebay actually so they aren't just lying all over my room. i'll have to take more pics when i get that. the
other schecter has had to live in its case since i got it - but that's ok because it's kept it super shiny and clean.
bought some heavy sets of 7 strings for this thing too.
need a hard case for this new one - only came with a gig bag.

"tremendous" - pioneering the notion that guitars DO actually grow on trees (or at least look like they do).
